King West Neighbourhood Info

Bordered on the south by Gardiner Expressway, on the east by Strachan Avenue, King Street West on the north, and Dufferin Street on the west, is an area of King Street real estate that developers and property owners have dubbed ‘Liberty Village’, to differentiate it from the Parkdale area which begins west of Dufferin Street.

Liberty Village was once a hub of industry which employed thousands within its rows of factory buildings which was serviced on the northeast by the CP railway. Today, the transformation from factories and warehouses to residential and commercial property has been amazing. None are architecturally appealing, but renovators like the Toy Factory Lofts on Hannah Avenue has proven that former industrial buildings can be revitalized and converted into newer urban living and working complexes fulfilling both residential and commercial needs.

Due to the constant and rapid growth of Toronto, and it’s quick accessibility to downtown, Liberty Village is now a fashionable real estate target that’s drawing the attention of many young professionals as well as US and Canadian art and design firms. More upscale condominiums, fresh storefronts, new restaurants, and even a copy of a Milanese arcade with canopied walkway is in the planning stages.

The King West area is primed and growing with a wonderful diversity of lifestyles available. From the offices focused on Liberty Village’s west side to the developing new condos centered east of Hanna Avenue on East Liberty Street, the residents, workers, and property owners in this area, whether residential or commercial, can experience a comfortable and convenient way of life.
