Common Mistakes of First Time Home Buyers

         Try to avoid these!

                                                                                          <Back

  • Not Asking Questions. Don't miss important information because you are afraid to come off as too eager or annoying. Don’t hesitate to ask for definitions or explanations, even if you think it should be something you know. It's better to explained something twice, than mis-interpret something.

  • Don't Overestimating How Much You Can Afford. Be realistic about your income. Just because you’ve been approved for a loan amount doesn’t mean you can afford it. Realize that your mortgage payment is just one piece of a bigger financial puzzle. Figure out what other major expenses do may you have on the horizon? Again, home repairs, condo fees and property taxes are not small expenses so make sure you’ve done the necessary calculations, and are prepared to adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

  • Not acting quickly enough to make a decision and someone else buys the house you thought would be perfect for you.

  • Not finding the right real estate professional who is willing to help you through the homebuying process. Here's some info about how we work.

  • Not doing enough to make you offer look good to a seller.

  • Not thinking about resale before you buy. The average first-time buyer only stays in a home for four years. Make sure you consider if your purchase would appeal to other future buyers
